Quarto is Columbia University’s oldest undergraduate literary journal, having published creative writing by students for over 60 years. The editorial board seeks to publish the highest-quality undergraduate writing that both embraces and expands traditional definitions of the literary.

The official magazine of Columbia University’s Creative Writing Department, Quarto strives to build a community of writers both on campus and within the larger literary world through readings, open-mics, fundraisers, competitions, and the inter-university Consortium.

Quarto has published the early work of many now-acclaimed writers, whose writings appear in our Archives section. The board accepts submissions from undergraduates during the fall semester and publishes in the spring.
