Vlad Dragomir Still Hoping for New Arsenal Deal

Nabil Fekir has received a contract offer from Manchester United, according to reports in France. The France international saw a move to Liverpool fall through last month. But now Le Progresclaims ‘For Nabil, offers are not lacking. The latest comes from Manchester United.’

However, the Red Devils have little interest in a move for the OL skipper, reports the Manchester Evening News. Liverpool ‘missed out’ on Fekir by €5million by reportedly citing the player’s apparent knee cartilage problem to bring the price down, so now United have supposedly shown interest. Or have they? Fekir plays as a second striker or an attacking midfielder, areas United are well stocked in following the addition of Fred and Fellaini extension. Jesse Lingard flourishes in an advanced midfield role, Juan Mata can play there and Paul Pogba has potential to step up in that area.

The Fekir tales are probably just that and there is no concrete evidence United want him. He only has two years left on his contract, so Lyon would prefer to sell him the 24-year-old this summer while he is coveted by a big Premier League club, rather than in a year’s time when his value will have dwindled.

Clubs have previously fabricated United’s interest in a player to smoke out a bidder and the biggest sucker for the ruse tends to be Liverpool.

The tactic was used by Hoffenheim with Roberto Firmino in 2015 before he moved to Liverpool and, in the same summer, an Aston Villa official alleged to a newspaper reporter that United would sign Christian Benteke, despite United having no intention of doing so. Within 24 hours, Liverpool had triggered the Belgian’s £32.5million release clause.

This summer, Fabinho moved to Liverpool after being linked with United for years and some actually reported he rejected United. He didn’t. United rejected him. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas recently teased he had held ‘discussions’ with Mourinho but Jean-Michel Aulas is the Daniel Levy of Ligue 1 and an expert in a driving a hard bargain. Liverpool were also careful to clarify they could resurrect a move for Fekir in July.
